Speech Therapy
Speech Therapy for Children 2-12 years. Early Childhood Early Intervention is specialised support for children experiencing physical, cognitive, behavioural, social and emotional developmental delay.
At Hinterland Children’s Therapy we offer speech therapy services to a Paediatric population. Through a play-based approach, we provide assessment, consultation and treatment for children experiencing difficulties with speech, language, feeding and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
Speech and Language
Speech is the verbal communication and the features and functions that impact on the clarity of a child’s verbal output. This includes:
Articulation – The way each speech sound is formed and produced which impacts on how clear your child’s speech is
Phonology – The systems of speech
Language is the words we use and how we use them to share ideas and get what we want. This includes:
Receptive language (processing and understanding information)
Expressive language (combine words into phrases and sentences to outwardly communicate)
At Hinterland Children’s Therapy we work with children to assess their speech and language and individual treatment plans are developed to address these area’s.
Feeding
Speech Therapists are trained in assessing, diagnosing and managing safe oral intake. Speech Therapists can assist with texture and fluid modification. At Hinterland Children’s Therapy, we utilise a responsive feeding approach to support children with oral sensory aversions (or what is sometimes referred to as fussy eaters.)
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
At Hinterland Children’s Therapy, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is any type of communication strategy used to assist with communications needs.
Speech Therapist’s can assess a child’s communication needs, design options for AAC systems and make recommendations on which AAC system would be best. These can be divided into high tech systems and low tech systems.
High tech AAC systems include speech generating devices including Proloquo2go. Low tech AAC systems include Key Word Sign, Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS) and communication boards.
